Is Brien Cowen physically and emotionally in love with Edna Kenny?

I would not know. I am just a simple poet.


But being observant of emotion, I can see Cowen is totally besotted with Edna.








Poem below explaining question.





Cowen’s beloved Edna





He is the besotted beast longing for Edna’s gentle touch,


Trying to hide his true feeling of true deep love, not lust,


They are divided by a storm of disagreement,


But yet-


He desires to hold Edna close,


Pretending publically that he hates his darling Edna,


Hurts Cowen the most.





He is trying to play hard to get,


Both men are married,


Edna being a straight man but Bio Cowen fell in love-


With his frenemy,





Biffo purring passionately-





“Edna, with your beauty of silky red hair,


Skin, oh as white as milk,


How I yearn to hold you, me love, my everything”





Edna, the one trying to steal his very crown,


Yet he loves him still,


A love unfound,





“Come join me for a whiskey”,





He says to his beloved after the Dail,


He wants to seduce his “Darling” in the bar,


Yet his love is unrequited,


Like Yeats and that girl,





Destined to be divided,


Edna is frightened,


Never going to the press,


They would never believe Cowen is in love with him,


And laugh at his face.





Shivers by his fallen lake,


Cowens Dreams in flames, through his scared eyes,


Images of a Drowning Celtic Tiger dissolve in lakes to fry,


Clichéd Metaphors surround this place,


Each holds the same familiar lies.





And worse still, he is in love with the opposition,


Yet he hates him so,


Loving poor Edna,


His beacon,


A love divided by opinion forever more,





Trying to hide his physical desires from the public,


Yet some of us already know,


The love that can’t be spoken or ever show.





Left a shattered fairytale,


The Biffo,


His beastie looks, now faded even more so.





The one he loves the very most,


His temptress, to steal his very crown.





Cowen watching him across the Dail,


His heart skips a beat,


As he stares at his beloved speak,


His everything,


Yet the love remains untold.





You can see it in his very eyes,


Hear it in his words,


So much passion for his sweet Edna,


For his beloved,


His unrequited love.
